Notice anything odd about this picture?

There’s no blimp!
Last Monday, around 1 p.m., the blimp broke free from its tether and crashed to the ground, breaking into many pieces and some of it even burnt.
I took this last picture on my Monday morning walk that morning.

I thought it odd then that the blimp was in the air at all, since it was so windy. We had sustained winds in the 30s and gusts up to 50 mph that day.

Hmm…. I used to the Goodyear blimp flying over, I think this must be a different kind of blimp.
Definitely not the Goodyear blimp. An aerostat used by the U.S. Border Patrol for surveillance. I have several posts / pictures about it … you’ll find them by clicking on “blimp” in my Tags cloud.
Here’s a news blurb about the crash: Aerostat Crashes in Sierra Vista Neighborhood
We saw on the news in Phoenix that it crashed. My first thought, too, was “Why was it even up in the wind?”. They are usually so good about that. I have to believe somebody got in BIG trouble for that costly and potentially dangerous mistake.
oops on the mistake!
