June 2019 Goals

It’s about time I got back into the habit of sharing my goals.  Putting them down for the world to see (all of my 7 subscribers!) somehow makes them more real.

Health & Weight – My big honking goal for 2018 was to lose 33 pounds by my 60th birthday in April 2019.  I did really well in 2018, losing 22 pounds, but somewhere around mid-January I lost my focus.  Not quite sure why, but I began eating snacks and sweets like crazy.  I’d like to blame it on the winter, but I’ve never gained 10 pounds in four months any other winter, which is exactly what happened this year. 

Recently, though, I’ve regrouped, refocused, joined a 100% ETL Challenge for June, and am getting back into the habit of daily exercising.  Since June 1st, I’ve lost 3.5 pound, so I know what I’m doing is working.  So now I have a new goal – to get back down to my previous low weight by August 1, sooner if I work hard at it, and then back to my original goal weight by New Year’s.  I know I can do it.  I will take this brief blip as a learning experience and do differently in the future.

So, for this month, my goals concerning health & weight are pretty simple.

  • Daily 100% ETL (Eat To Live, the way of eating {WOE} that I’ve followed for the past 8 years.
  • Daily 100% 2B Vegan Mindset ( a complementary {with ETL} eating plan that I was doing the last half of 2018 and worked well for me).
  • Daily Intentional exercise of some fashion.

As you can see from this month’s tracker, I’m doing fairly well in most areas.  Those first 5 days have a lot of colored boxes!  I’m finding that this type of tracker is fairly motivating.

Quicken – One goal that I’ve had forever and ever is to keep up to date with Quicken and to reach year’s end and not have a mad, frenetic three-week marathon to catch it all up in time for taxes. I kept it up to date until mid-April, this week I’m playing catch up again.

Blog posts – 2 blog posts per week.  Hmmm… only one so far in June.  I’d best get busy!

40th Wedding Anniversary trip – need to get that planned.  Vacation dates from work have been approved, now we just need to pin down and itinerary and make some reservations.

So, that’s June.  And already it’s the 6th!  June is just flying by. Time to go work on some of those goals!

Avocados and Green Smoothies

My new eating plan is introducing me to many new foods and recipes. Just yesterday I used my very first avocado! Successfully, no less! I bought it, let it ripen, and used half in a smoothie yesterday. The half is saved in the refrigerator, waiting to be used today. I was so proud of myself! It’s the little thing, you know?

I added the avocado to a Vegan Chocolate Spinach Shake, which was delicious. The chocolate mostly hides the green color and with the banana and dates, it is sweet enough for my sweet tooth. I find that if I can have a fruit smoothie during the day, it curbs my desire for sweets, particularly chocolate. Eventually I will add more of the greens and less of the sweet fruit, I suspect, but for now it is a great way to ease into the “green smoothie” mindset.

Now if I could just kick the mocha habit, again! I was doing very well before we went to the Grand Canyon, but there were too many Starbucks while traveling. I have done better this week than last and I’m hoping this Chocolate Spinach Shake will kick the mocha craving to the curb. Or at least let me ignore it long enough that it goes away. I know it will, since it did back in August. I can do it again. And maybe that will be all I need to jumpstart the weight loss again. Two weeks ago I was down 14 pounds for three days, and then back up about two pounds, where I’ve sat since. I am just beginning my twelfth week of this new eating plan and the goal was 15 pounds to lose in that 12 weeks time. NO MORE MOCHAS!

Here’s my supper from Friday night.

Three kinds of lettuce (red leaf, green leaf, romaine), raspberries (I try to always add one fruit to the mix), slightly thawed peas, navy beans (I’m getting pretty good at cooking my own beans), slivers of mini carrots, a small amount of thinly sliced red onion, one half a roma tomato diced (I try to eat one whole tomato per day), and some balsamic vinegar sprinkled over the whole thing. Yummy. I love how colorful my salads are and how pretty they look on my Fiesta Ware plates.

The salad was the main course and then I had a small serving of Green Beans and Potatoes (minus the smoke flavoring). And I was full! Eating Vegan most of the time is turning out to be a lot easier than I ever thought it would. And Saturday morning, my scales told me I was down two more pounds! Whooeee! That makes a total of fourteen pounds weight loss so far in ten weeks. I am happy with that!
