3 Quick Thoughts on Saturday, April 21, 2018

It’s been a busy week and a busy month – Quicken is 100% caught up, taxes are filed, health benefits elected, the May newsletter is mostly done, and I’ve been 9 days with 100% ETL, including no caffeine.  I’m on a roll!

The garden and yard projects are coming along – we’ve done a bit of work outside most every evening this past week.

Bill is away today to an Azure class in Irving, so I’m having a Me Day.  I have ingredients to make homemade pizza for supper and the day is going to be spent crocheting and catching up on American Idol and This Is Us.

  • Taxes.  We received our refund last week.  I paid down some more credit card debt instead of splurging.  We’re still on track to have all that nasty credit card debt paid off by the end of 2017, which feels awesome.

  • We are meeting with a second HVAC company Saturday morning to get a second quote on the proposed HVAC upgrade.  We’ll see whether company number one is as good as they say they are or are blowing smoke.  LOL

  • Saturday evening we’re meeting one of Bill’s coworkers and his wife for dinner in Denton.  I’ve met them a few times at function and they are both very nice.  We also got together just about a year ago for an afternoon of snacks, beer, and a beer tour, which was interesting, sort of.  I don’t drink beer, but learning how they make it was fun.  I saw lots of things that reminded me of our dairy farm bulk tank area and also some of the wineries that I’ve seen in the Finger Lakes area where I grew up.  Anyway, it should be a pleasant evening out.

  • Taxes.  I finished and filed them Thursday.  We are even getting a small refund back.  Sweet!
  • The plan for Easter Sunday is to work some more in the garage.  We haven’t touched the big “Garage Organization” project since December.  We made great strides then, but tools still need to be put into new toolbox drawers and a few things labeled better, as we’re still spending too much time searching when we need something.
  • I’m almost done with my Master Gardener Class.  Tuesday we have a fieldtrip to the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension & Research Center, for tours of their WaterWise facilities, Turf Trials, and Shade Gardens.  April 25th we cover Migration of Pests & Diseases (What Role Do We Play?), Basic Composting Skills, and a Brown Bag lunch speaker on Vermiculture.  Maybe I’ll finally be able to start the worm farm I brought home from NY from my mom.  And our last class is May 2nd, which is a wrap-up class, mini-field trip reports, and a “Celebration!”  And our Mentors provide lunch…hmm, I may have to talk to my mentor about that one.  Anyway, I can’t believe we’re winding down!  The classes have been so much fun – I have absolutely no regrets about signing up.  In fact, I’m seriously considering taking the Master Naturalists classes that are offered in the fall, but I’ll wait a year and do it in Fall 2018.  Mum’s the word – I haven’t mentioned it to Bill.
