Tuesday Blanket and Taxes Update

Horse & Ribbons crocheted blanket

Liana’s Birthday Blanket progress

I am making excellent progress on Liana’s Birthday blanket. If I can keep up this pace, I could have it done before the end of the month! That would be wonderful.

I spoke too soon about the scorpions yesterday … another rather large one was on the sticky pads in the garage this morning.

Taxes were begun yesterday. I ran into a bit of snag early on with my reports from Quicken for the business and had to wait for Bill to come home and see what the issue was. I spent about an hour trying to figure it out before he got home and we spent another hour together working on it and finally decided it is a Quicken error. When you run single year Balance Sheet reports, there’s a running balance showing in the Accounts Receivables (Customer Invoices), but when you run a Balance Sheet for the entire life cycle of the business, or any other reports that show Receivables, there’s a zero balance, which is what it should be. Obviously a Quicken error, and it was driving me crazy, but glad to figure out that it wasn’t anything I had entered or set up incorrectly.

More taxes this afternoon, more cross stitching this evening!

Weekly Overview March 10, 2014

geranium

A geranium that survived the winter.

Outside My Window… I have a geranium that survived the winter.

I am thinking… that I really should have eaten more sensibly last night when we went out to dinner.

I am thankful for… Pandora.com

From the kitchen… the dishes are piled up while potatoes and spaghetti squash await baking.

I am hoping… I hardly dare hope what I’m hoping.

I am reading… The Fitzgeralds and the Kennedys, An American Saga by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

I am busy creating… cross stitching on Liana’s birthday blanket.

I am hearing… It Might Be You by Stephen Bishop on my Barry Manilow Pandora station, the floor fan running to keep me cool, and the house air conditioning unit.

Around the house & garden… I already tackled the Monday vacuuming, litter box cleaning and trash removal so I’m all ready for the trash pickup tomorrow. Last week I cleaned up about half of the backyard from last fall’s growing season; I plan to get the rest cleaned up sometime this week and hopefully tackle some more of the front yard. Today marks 7 days scorpion free, both inside and in the garage!

In other news… I bought daffodils and tulips last Thursday. I have three bouquets scattered about the house. Well worth the $14.00 I paid! Bill and I went out to dinner with friends last night (new restaurant, no plant-based entrees) and then back to their house to play cards for a bit. We had a good time.

One of my favorite things… cut flowers.

Weekly Overview… No appointments this week, so just the usual mid-week grocery run will probably be my only venture out the door. This week is tax week and cross-stitch week. We have TurboTax downloaded and the Quicken files transferred, so now it is just sitting down and actually doing it.

Liana’s blanket is coming along nicely. There are three poles of carousel horses – I have one pole completely done and two-thirds of the second completed. I worked another two hours on it this morning. I really do need to block Kat’s purple shawl yet; maybe I can fit that in sometime this week.

3 Quick Thoughts on Saturday, March 8, 2014

  • This weekend’s plans include grocery shopping on Saturday, dinner out with friends on Sunday and then back to their house to play cards, and taping the NASCAR race in Las Vegas. Oh, and more cross stitching!
  • I accomplished a lot early in the week, cleaning up the back patio, pulling some weeds in the yard and cleaning out last year’s dead plants from some containers. I repotted a few African violets and cleaned the garage, looking for scorpions and laying down many more sticky pads. No taxes were done, although bills were paid on Friday. Taxes will be next week.
  • Speaking of African violets, I need to remember to purchase some more potting soil tomorrow while I’m running errands. I have several more plants that need splitting and repotting. Anyone want some African violets? I don’t know what I’m going to do with all that I split … maybe I will have to offer them to the first takers online!

What will you do be doing this weekend?
