Thursday’s Treasures – Jewelry Boxes and Vases

I visited a local thrift store yesterday and came home with some new treasures! I love wooden boxes, especially wooden jewelry boxes, so I could not resist when I saw this treasure:

It stands 18 inches tall, 13.5 inches wide, and is 6 inches deep. Look at all the compartments!

I am in love! Now I absolutely have to clean off my vanity and find a place for this beauty.

In addition to the beautiful jewelry box, I found a lead crystal hand blown bud vase.

I love vases. The green vase on the left is one that my cousin Roberta gave me for my last birthday. Wasn’t she sweet?

Finally, my last treasures … a vase full of colorful flowers next to a framed snapshot of Miss Munchkin and myself taken last month. That is quickly becoming my all-time favorite picture of both myself and Fiona. Life is good!

Flowers and Vases

I promised some garden pictures this week and so here are the first. I planted snapdragons two years ago and they did fairly well. Obviously they self-seeded, as they appeared again last year, when I mostly ignored them, watering them only occasionally. This year they came up again and so I decided to be nicer to them. I’ve watered and pruned and they are looking very pretty.

I am glad I decided to pay some attention to them this year, as they are making lovely cut flowers.

I bought this lovely vase a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been lamenting that I didn’t have any small vases (so many of my vases are still in storage in Alabama), so when I saw this pretty blue one, I just had to snatch it up.

My cousin Roberta knows me well. Look what arrived in the mail yesterday for my birthday:

A handcrafted green vase. I love it! We both have a penchant for vases of flowers around the house, something we learned from our mutual grandmother, Mabel, which my cousin wrote about just yesterday in her blog, Eleven Point Pink. Thank you so much, Reb, for the lovely vase.

Operation Clean Desk

Remember this, My Nice Clean Desk!?

Or maybe this Clean Desk?

Notice any ongoing theme here?

Well, here’s today’s desk picture:

What a disaster! Guess what I will be working on this week, beginning just as soon as I have this blog post written and uploaded.

This was a good morning to begin a new routine of using the Just Dance 2 on the Wii. I turned it on just as soon as Bill walked out this door this morning, even though I wanted nothing more than to crawl back in bed. But I resisted, put my sneaks on, did the Warm Up routine on the Just Dance 2 program, and then burned some calories for about twenty minutes. I don’t know as I have any more energy after doing all that (and I definitely need energy to tackle this desk!), but at least I am awake! Hopefully I can do this on a daily basis, in addition to some walking outside. But I know I need to create an indoor morning routine, because I am a fair weather walker and as soon as it turns cold or rainy or snowy, I won’t be stepping one foot out the door!

Speaking of out the door … Sunday morning Bill noticed this praying mantis up towards the roof outside our front door.

Two days later, it is still there.

I’ve never seen a praying mantis this brown. I think I’ll ask my cousin Roberta over at Growing With Science why it is brown and why it is sticking around so long. She will certainly know the answer.
