3 Quick Thoughts on Saturday, April 22, 2017

  • Taxes.  We received our refund last week.  I paid down some more credit card debt instead of splurging.  We’re still on track to have all that nasty credit card debt paid off by the end of 2017, which feels awesome.

  • We are meeting with a second HVAC company Saturday morning to get a second quote on the proposed HVAC upgrade.  We’ll see whether company number one is as good as they say they are or are blowing smoke.  LOL

  • Saturday evening we’re meeting one of Bill’s coworkers and his wife for dinner in Denton.  I’ve met them a few times at function and they are both very nice.  We also got together just about a year ago for an afternoon of snacks, beer, and a beer tour, which was interesting, sort of.  I don’t drink beer, but learning how they make it was fun.  I saw lots of things that reminded me of our dairy farm bulk tank area and also some of the wineries that I’ve seen in the Finger Lakes area where I grew up.  Anyway, it should be a pleasant evening out.

Just a Moment – Thirty-Eight

A friend asked for more pictures of the Bayless-Selby Historical Museum.  The field of bluebonnets is away to the right of the picture.

My indoor plants are happy – the hibiscus has been blooming the last two weeks and the Christmas cactus looks like it will bloom by Eastertime.  Amazing what a little fertilizer will do!

We went to dinner last night in Denton, which has a very neat town square.  Denton is a college town, rather eclectic, and has a big music scene.  You often see musicians busking on the town square, along with artists & their easels, people picnicking, and lover’s making out.

The old Denton County Courthouse

Isn’t that an awesome building!

Super Busy

I’ve been super busy this month with Master Gardener activities and it’s not going to let up for the next 6 – 8 weeks.  I had two meetings today in Denton, so I stayed in town over lunch and ate tried a new place to eat, The Bowllery.

I tried the Denton Bowl and an Almond Mocha smoothie, both delicious and both completely vegan.  I’m going to have to take David there, as I know he will like it.

Their salt & pepper shakers have small figures in them that appear as you use up the salt or pepper.  Very cute!

After my meetings, I took a little time to check out the Bayless-Selby House, which is where my group has a tour scheduled on April 19th for our Master Gardener Mini-Tour.  The people in charge of the house told us that the gardens would be best that week, but I thought they were gorgeous right now, so I took a lot of pictures.  And they have a whole field of bluebonnets!
