Our pool is finally warm enough for very pleasant swimming. One thermometer says 87 degrees, the second says 90 degrees. Either way, it’s quite lovely. We’ve even left the pool uncovered a night or two to keep it from getting warmer. 90 degrees seems to be perfect!
Today is Day 2 of wearing my new size 12P jeans! I keep reminding myself how awesome that feels every time I want a snack.
Yesterday we drove around Frisco, visited Nebraska Furniture Mart and the Laz-e-Boy store, looking at new loveseats, just to get an idea of pricing and options. Mostly it was a way to spend a hot afternoon in air conditioning and still getting out of the house a bit. It was (103 degrees on the car thermometer as we were driving at 4:30 p.m. yesterday! The last few nights it’s not dropped below 82 degrees overnight – summer is here!
Another busy Saturday, including two trips to Lowe’s with the Neon to pick up bags of soil and compost. We added 25 cubic feet to the front flower bed (outside the office window), and then I was able to transplant the 8 Sweet William flowers into that bed. There’s another 5 cubic feet left in bags to use on the new bed I will be building in front of the lattice that conceals the compost bins and where I intend to plant a Confederate Jessmine flowering evergreen vine.
We also picked up linseed oil and Bill applied one coat to the new fencing around the compost bin area. We’ll need more oil to do a second coat and then I can begin to build that flower bed.
I saw blueberry shrubs at Lowe’s yesterday and they were loaded with blueberries. I’m so tempted to take the $50 gift card I have and buy two plants. They are Bountiful Blue Blueberries (Vaccinium corymbosum) supplied by Monrovia. I hesitate because the blueberry roots I bought three years ago didn’t pan out – but these plants are big and beautiful. Can I resist? And where would I put them, because I’d need more than one, for sure. It’s suggested to pair them with Sunshine Blue Blueberries. Hmmm … stay tuned.
My Master Gardener graduation was held this past Wednesday night. It was a nice evening, not too long, and I was able to introduce Bill to some of the Master Gardeners I have worked with this past year. I’m still uncomfortable in those types of social situations – what do all those people find to talk about? And how do they just walk up to a group that is already talking and join in without feeling like they are barging in? Maybe someday I’ll figure it all out.
I made great progress on the estate financial reports and
(hopefully!) emailed all the figures to the lawyer on Friday afternoon.
I’ve been walking more this week, even though it has been cold and windy. I’ve been reading Spark: The Revolutionary Science of Exercise and The Brain, and it’s explanations of how exercise impacts the brain and cognitive abilities is spurring me to
